Dhaka-- (UNB) – Industries Minister Tofail Ahmed has said that Bangladesh is now moving towards becoming a prosperous nation although it started from zero.

“In last four years and seven months, we could prove that Bangladesh is a country of bright prospect. All of its economic indicators are moving ahead,” he said while addressing a function at Sonargaon Hotel here on Wednesday night.

Navana Limited organised the function marking the 25th anniversary of Navana-Goodyear partnership in Bangladesh.

Navana established the partnership with world’s largest tyre manufacturing company in 1976 to market Goodyear tyres in Bangladesh.

Tofail said the Pakistan occupation forces had destroyed the existing road communication network of the country during the war of liberation.

“But yesterday the road communication in Bangladesh is excellent. We could bring even villages under the road communication network... now you can use motor vehicles to travel to villages,” he said.

That’s the reason why consumption of Goodyear tyres rose to 30,000 yesterday from 4,000 at the beginning as Navana started marketing Goodyear tyres in the country, the minister said.

Navana Group chairman Shafiul Islam Kamal, chairman and managing director for Goodyear in India Luis Ceneviz and sales and marketing director of Goodyear India Limited E Krishnaiah also addressed the function.

Earlier, on Wednesday morning, Shafiul Islam Kamal and Luis Ceneviz jointly inaugurated the Goodyear Tyre and Car Service centre in Tejgaon Industrial area.

With technical assistance from Goodyear, Navana Limited established the computerised centre with modern facilities at a cost of Tk 10 million to provide services to car owners of the city.

British Petroleum also provided technical assistance to set up the centre. Skilled automobile engineers and technicians will operate the centre to ensure quality services.
